G & R Electrical Construction started in January 1999 from very humble beginnings. George H. Picken, Jr. was an electrician with an independent electrical contractor in Austin. George’s boss asked him to run an underground conduit at a house project. George gladly accepted the challenge and asked his good friend to assist him on the job. With pick and shovel, the job was completed, but George thought having a tractor would be the way to go. He quickly started contracting his own jobs.

In a short time, G & R Utility had many subdivisions filled with track homes. In addition, they were breaking into the custom home market.

By 2005, G & R was installing the electrical service conduit on 5,000 homes annually and installing electrical and communication conduits on projects upwards of $1,000,000.

The company’s first commercial endeavor was the project known as Amber Oaks, a business park in north Austin.

In 2006 George H. Picken, Jr., President and CEO, moved G & R Utility forward into a full service company, now known as G & R Electrical Construction, Inc., Electrical Contractors.

G & R is proud to have completed jobs such as the Alamo Ranch Center in San Antonio and locally, 1890 Ranch Shopping Center in Cedar Park, plus many others.

Today G & R employs a very strong and competent electrical management team with a wide knowledge in electrical construction, including approximately 200 plus field staff. Their friendly office staff and serious safety department are a plus for the company.

G & R has on-going projects from the greater Austin area to Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. We also perform daily maintenance and emergency service calls in these areas.
