Austin DPS Crime Lab is a state of the art facility for the Department of Public Safety to house their Criminal Investigation Unit.
The building is over 60,000 sq. ft and 3 stories. There is a separate 2,900 sq. ft., Central Plant.
G&R was responsible for adding 2 - 5KV transformers that feed around the property with a complete loop for constant power availability. There is also a 1250 KW Generator Set for the emergency power, life safety power and critical power systems. Each system has its own Automatic Transfer Switch to ensure no loss of power on the campus.
G & R has also partnered up to provide Fire Alarm, Nurse Call, Code Blue, Intercom, CCTV, CATV and a state of the art Access Control system. All systems will be integrated to the existing facilities on site via fiber optics.
The project had an aggressive 14 month schedule with opening planned for Summer of 2010. All of the systems have been coordinated using BIM technology. The 3D generated drawings allow for coordination in the tight ceilings of each floor. HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Suppression, Electrical and Special Systems have all been rendered in one set of coordinated drawings for Architectural and Engineering review and final Owner approval.
